In an effort to increase revenue, Twitter intends to charge businesses $1,000 per month for gold verification badges.

Matt Nawarra, a social media consultant and industry analyst, tweeted that Twitter plans to charge an additional $50 per month to add any additional badges to each business account.

Businesses distinguish themselves from other accounts by using gold verification badges to verify themselves. The company adds badges to the accounts of anyone associated with them that display miniature versions of their Twitter profile pictures as part of the verification process.

The strategy to monetize the platform and boost declining revenues includes both moves.

Twitter has not yet made an official announcement regarding the fees associated with the Gold verification.
