Three new directors will join OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman on the ChatGPT-maker’s board, the most well-known artificial intelligence business in the world announced on Friday.
Following the conclusion of WilmerHale’s examination into the circumstances surrounding Altman’s November termination, the business reinforced its conflict of interest policy and established new governance guidelines. The board declared that it supported Altman’s leadership in unanimity.
Workers, financiers, and Microsoft (MSFT.O), opens new tab, OpenAI’s largest financial sponsor, expressed dismay at Altman’s dismissal, which was revoked in a matter of days.
On Friday, OpenAI announced the appointment of new directors, which included Fidji Simo, CEO of Instacart, Nicole Seligman, former president of Sony Entertainment, Sue Desmond-Hellmann, a former CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Altman.

In an X post, Altman greeted the new board members and said, “We have important work in front of us.”
They will join current board members Chairman Bret Taylor, a former co-CEO of Salesforce, former US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, and Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo.
WilmerHale’s inquiry revealed that Altman’s termination had nothing to do with worries about OpenAI’s financial standing, the safety of its products, or any other matters.

According to OpenAI, the legal firm’s findings were the result of a breakdown in the relationship and loss of confidence between the previous Board and Mr. Altman.
“OpenAI stated in a blog post that WalderHale discovered the previous Board thought at the time that its actions would mitigate internal management challenges and did not anticipate that its actions would destabilize the Company.”
“WilmerHale concluded that the previous Board had exercised its broad discretion in terminating Mr. Altman, but further concluded that his actions did not justify his removal,” the statement continued.
