Customers may experience internet outages between May 11 and May 18 as a result of maintenance work on a submarine cable, Pakistan Telecommunicatio Company Ltd (PTCL) announced on Sunday.
“A maintenance activity is planned on one of our submarine cables to repair a fault by the International Cable Consortium”, PTCL wrote in a post on X. The work will start on May 11 and might go until May 18.
According to PTCL, “during this period, customers may face internet service degradation during evening hours”.
Three underwater optical fiber cable networks that give Pakistan access to the global internet are managed by the state-owned telecom behemoth.
Persistent underwater cable problems frequently cause disruptions for Pakistani internet customers.
Pakistan lead the world in financial losses from internet and social media app disruptions and shutdowns in 2023, according to a report by Top10VPN.com.
