One of the first countries in the Asia-Pacific area to embrace the newest WiFi generation, WiFi 7, was approved by the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) on Friday.
A press statement states that WiFi 7 and subsequent models will use the 6 GHz network band, demonstrating Pakistan’s dedication to digital innovation and leadership.
According to the news announcement, “Wi-Fi 7 enables 8K streaming, AR/VR, and industrial automation by delivering ultra-high data rates, low latency, and robust reliability.”
“It will improve connectivity for homes, SMEs (small-medium), campuses, healthcare, and smart cities by relieving congestion in legacy bands and lowering broadband delivery costs.”
This comes a week after Zarrar Hasham, the secretary of information and technology, stated that it could take four to five weeks to repair broken underwater internet lines.
In response to a question concerning slow internet and interruptions during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, the IT secretary stated that several cables had been severed off the Yemeni coast, impacting internet services.
