ISLAMABAD: Google, a unit of Alphabet, has become the first company to register as a business with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). This opens the door for other multinational corporations to establish offices in Pakistan.

In accordance with the “Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content (Procedure, Oversight, and Safeguards) Rules, 2021,” social media companies were required to open offices in the country. The tech giant, which is based in the United States, has registered itself with the SECP.

Syed Aminul Haque, Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications told Geo News that other social media platforms will open offices in Pakistan following the registration of the American multinational technology company.

“TikTok will soon establish a Pakistan office. Despite the fact that his ministry will provide complete support to foreign businesses, he stated, “companies remain reluctant due to the lack of trust and inconsistent policies.”

According to social media regulations, the government of Pakistan requires companies to register, and Google registered as a business in this context.

If Google’s server is built in Pakistan, data will be safe. All businesses, including social media, store their data outside of Pakistan even now.
