According to Bloomberg News, Apple received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Thursday to introduce a hypertension detection feature on its smartwatch the following week.
Requests for response from Reuters were not immediately answered by Apple or the FDA.
At the September 9 event, the company announced a blood pressure monitor in its newest Apple Watch and unveiled a redesigned iPhone lineup that included the thinner iPhone Air.
Although it won’t identify every instance of high blood pressure, the function, which is awaiting regulatory approval, could warn around a million individuals, according to Apple.
According to the story, which cited Apple, the feature, which is available in 150 countries, will track how a user’s blood vessels react to heartbeats over a 30-day period using data from the watch’s optical heart sensor.
According to Bloomberg News, the Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, Series 11, and its more costly Ultra 2 and Ultra 3 smartwatches will all have the capability.
